My earliest conclusion was simple:

Humans interrupt eating to document eating.

Vanity.

Then I followed the photographs.

They travel to mothers.

To absent friends.

To children living three states away.

To someone who once loved this exact restaurant.

The meal was never the subject.

The photograph says,

I wish you had been here.
